MY JOURNEY

I am an educator …always and forever. For most of my adult life, I have taught… first, in Baltimore City and, later, in Baltimore County Schools. In 1983, as much as I enjoyed teaching and working with children, I decided I wanted to explore another interest of mine, law enforcement. To this end, I served as an FBI agent for several years.

A teacher is always a teacher, and as such, in addition to working my cases, I taught often for the FBI. Several years later, I returned to teaching; this time in Baltimore County Public Schools, serving in many roles: English teacher, Equity Office Specialist, Assistant Principal at three diverse schools and principal at two schools. Through the years, the students taught me as much as I taught them. In 2012, I retired…in theory…, teaching graduate courses in the Urban Education Department at Morgan State University.

In November 2018, I was elected to the Baltimore County School Board in Councilmanic District 2, receiving 66.1 percent of the vote in the general election.  In December 2021, the school board selected me to serve as its vice chair.  It was the work on the Board that truly piqued my interest in what the State Legislature really had to say about educating our children.

I resigned from the school board on February 11, 2022, to run for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 11A. Running for the delegate seat was a natural move for me when the State Legislature designed and created Legislative District 11A. After winning the election, I was sworn into the Maryland House of Delegates on January 11, 2023.

I currently serve on the Judiciary Committee, which gives me an opportunity to use my education and law enforcement backgrounds. Working for the people in 11A and all those in the County and State has been a re-vitalizing experience.

MY VISION

It is my goal is to create a more equitable and just society, where every person has the opportunity to reach their full potential. I believe that education is the key to unlocking this potential, and I am committed to ensuring that every person has access to quality education and the resources they need to succeed. With a focus on empowerment and community building, I am dedicated to creating a brighter future for all Marylanders.

MY MISSION

Empowering Communities

My mission is to build stronger, more resilient communities, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Through education, empowerment, and collaboration, I am committed to creating a more just and equitable society, where everyone is valued and respected. With a focus on community building, I believe that we can create real, lasting change in Baltimore County and the State of Maryland.
